Rotary International is a voluntary public service organization founded in Chicago in 1905 by Paul Harris and three of his friends are: Sylvester Shelley, Gustavus Loire and Hiram Schori. His name means rotation because the meetings were held on a regular basis
It aims to serve the community in which the club is located and to serve its members through closer links between members of different professions. The membership of the club expanded over time to include about 1.2 million members in 32,000 clubs from 200 countries in 2006. Clubs in a particular district are grouped into the so-called Rotary district.
