NileSat 101 is Egypt's first satellite and the first satellite owned by an African or Arab country. A satellite dedicated to space communications. He left service in February 2013.

Was manufactured by Matra Marconi, a British-French joint venture, and launched on Ariane 4 from French Guiana on 28 April 1998. It was officially launched on 31 May 1998 and is expected to remain in service for 15 years.
