In accordance to what was presented to us by the Minister of the treasury and the approval of the cabinet of the unit of Egyptian currency is the Egyptian pound and it is divided to 100 piastres or 100 piastres or 1000 milliemes
Egyptian coins are
Gold Coins : The Egyptian Pound in the weight of 8.5 g
50 piastres ( half pound ) in the weight of 4.25 g ( unissued )
The fineness of the gold coins should be 0.875 gold and 0.125 mixture of other metals
Silver Coins : 20 piastres ( rial ) in the weight of 28 g
10 piastres ( half rial ) in the weight of 14 g
5 piastres ( quarter rial ) in the weight of 7 g
2 piastres ( half franc ) in the weight of 2.8 g
The fineness of the silver coins should be 0.833 silver and 0.167 mixture of other metals
Nickel Coins : 10 milliemes ( one piastre ) in the weight of 5.7 g
5 milliemes ( taarifa ) in the weight of 4.7 g
2 milliemes ( nickla ) in the weight of 3.9 g
1 millieme in the weight of 3 g
Bronze Coins : half millieme in the weight of 3.33 g
